Longwood is a beautiful city in Seminole County, Florida, with a very rural, suburban feel. The population was 14,117. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has one of the oldest trees in America within its borders: Lady Liberty estimated to be almost 2,000 years old. There are plenty of shopping areas and restaurants here to please every type of tastebud! Easy access to I-4 makes this area very accessible to tourists and residents alike.
The city of Longwood's public schools are a part of Seminole County Public Schools which rank 5th out of the 68 Florida school districts. For the second consecutive year, Newsweek recognized all Seminole County High Schools in the top 3% in the nation based on the number of students enrolled in advanced placement or international baccalaureate classes. Orlando Business Journal ranked all SCPS high schools among the top 25 in Central Florida. Longwood contains four public elementary schools (K-5), two public middle schools (6-8), and one public high school (9-12). Two additional high schools are located outside of Longwood, but draw some students from within the city limits (Lake Mary and Seminole high school).
From Car Shows and Farmers’ Markets to their widely recognized baseball program and art classes, Longwood has something to offer for anyone and everyone. If shopping or live music is more your speed Uptown Altamonte is located only a few short miles away. With a waterfront amphitheater seating 1,200 people, several fountains, and a walkway over and around the lake. Right next to Uptown Altamonte is the Altamonte Mall. This two-story mall has numerous restaurants and an astounding 18 screen AMC movie theater featuring IMAX movies as well.
The Longwood Historic District is a U.S.historic district (designated as such on October 5, 1990) located in Longwood, Florida. The district is bounded by West Pine Avenue, South Milwee Street, Palmetto Avenue, and CR 427. The district contains 37 historic buildings, including the Bradlee-McIntyre House and the Longwood Hotel.
